The Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Biotechnology YES) is an innovative competition developed to raise awareness of the commercialisation of bioscience ideas among early career researchers. The competition, funded by sponsorship, aims to encourage an entrepreneurial culture for the benefit of the UK economy.
Participants enter as teams and develop a business plan for a company based on a hypothetical but plausible idea based on real markets over the course of one of the following workshops:
- Plants, microbial and environmental sciences workshop – hosted by Syngenta
- Biomedical workshop – hosted by GSK and the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst
- Food nutrition and wellbeing workshop – hosted by Unilever
The workshops are expected to be held between September and November 2016.
There is a prize fund of £5,000, which includes a first place prize of £2,500 plus a trip to the United States and an invitation to the UK Bioindustry Association’s Gala dinner.
