Extended Description

The Sir Halley Stewart Trust was established in 1924 by Sir Halley Stewart with a capital sum and over subsequent years, guidelines have been established governing the awards. Continuity with the Founder is maintained by Trustees drawn from the Stewart family. Other Trustees provide expertise in special areas of interest.

The Trust aims to promote a just environment and international goodwill by supporting individuals who are undertaking innovative and groundbreaking research in the fields of medical, social, educational and religious projects mainly within the UK.

The Trust follows Christian values and therefore has a main focus on projects aim on the prevention, rather than the alleviation, of human suffering.

The Trust welcome proposals for projects in the UK which attempt to:

  • prevent and resolve conflict, promote reconciliation, and/or encourage re-connection between family members
  • help people to ‘move beyond disadvantage’
  • help people who may be vulnerable and/or have been exploited, particularly the elderly

Such projects might be concerned with the family and social aspects of:

  • crime,
  • imprisonment,
  • homelessness,
