The European Commission has launched the first Calls for Proposals under the new LIFE Programme for 2014 to 2020. For 2014-2020 the Programme has been divided into two sub-programmes, LIFE Environment and for the first time LIFE Climate Action.
The LIFE Climate Action sub-programme is a new funding programme for projects dedicated to climate action and has three priorities: mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to climate change and governance and information. It will provide €44.26 million in 2014 to develop and implement innovative ways to respond to the climate change challenge across Europe.
Under the Climate Action sub-programme applications will be accepted this year only for Traditional projects and Capacity Building projects.
“Traditional” projects cover the following priority areas:
- LIFE Climate Change Mitigation
- LIFE Climate Change Adaptation
- LIFE Climate Governance and Information
Applications are accepted from public bodies, commercial organisations and non-commercial organisations, including NGOs.
The Call for Traditional projects has a deadline of 16 October 2014, whilst the Call for Capacity Building projects will accept applications on a rolling basis until 30 September 2015.
The next call for LIFE proposals will target operating grants for non-profit organisations active at European level in climate and environmental issues and will be launched in the autumn.
