A Brussels based event to discuss the challenges and opportunities of an ageing society in Europe will be held on the 8th October 2012. Coordinated by Coventry University the event will include presentations and debates relating to different themes within the broader context of the ageing society with contributors from different EU countries, including a presentation from the European Commission on ‘Horizon 2020: Delivering a Better Society for Older People in Europe’.
The event will also introduce Coventry University’s Grand Challenge theme of “Ageing Society’ – an initiative working across the whole University and with different international partners looking to stimulate radical changes in our traditional attitudes and approaches to ageing and older people, and getting people from different disciplines and areas of interest working together to ensure that older people are not seen as a burden but rather an asset to be celebrated. At the event Coventry University will also be showcasing some of the interesting and varied projects they have been developing with our partners.
The event will include the international launch of Coventry University’s Age Research Centre (ARC). The Age Research Centre responds to the need to recognise older people as a resource; a valuable asset in our families and in the economic and social lives of our communities. This links to the principles of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 and raising the awareness of the contributions that older people make to society.
