The Stroke Association invites applications for its project grants. These support the entire spectrum of stroke research, from prevention and risk factors through to treatment and rehabilitation in an acute setting and, longer term, in the community. Proposals may be submitted under one of the following streams:
- clinical trial project grants – these support the early phases of trials and the creation of UK centres for large, international clinical trials in stroke medicine;
- community care project grants – these support research investigating how the long-term care of stroke survivors in the community can be improved;
- developmental research project grants – these support projects that fall outside the remit of community care and do not incorporate clinical trials. Applications in the fields of epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, imaging, childhood stroke, medical and surgical therapy, assessment and rehabilitation are particularly welcome.
Clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals from universities, NHS Trusts, statutory social care organisations and research institutions in the UK are eligible to apply. Project grants are normally awarded for three years with up to £70,000 per year. In very exceptional circumstances, grants may be awarded for up to five years.
The closing date for applications is the 8th February 2012.
