New Fulbright Timeline and Increased Award Values and Benefits for Students and Academics

Research and Enterprise have received notification from the US-UK Fulbright Commission of several improvements to the Fulbright Awards Programme to increase the value of the awards and to make it easier for UK citizens to apply.

Improvements to the Programme include:

  • Scholarships for Postgraduates, pursuing Master’s, PhD or a period as a visiting researcher, now include a fully funded first year.
  • Grants for Scholars, Senior Academics and Professionals will feature higher monthly stipends.
  • New opportunities for academics during the teaching break – the Fulbright Commission are now offering support for 3-month research/lecturing projects over the summer term.
  • New Award Categories including: the Elsevier, Leon Jaworski and State Street Postgraduate Scholarships and the Fulbright-Lloyds of London Scholar Award (see the website for full details.)

The element of choice remains at the core of the Fulbright Programme: applicants decide on their project and where in the US they would like to go. Applications are welcome from any discipline to any US Higher Education Institution and will be selected for fujnding based on academic excellence, ambassadorial skills, extra-curricular/community interests, leadership potential and a desire to further the Fulbright mission to develop cultutral understanding between the UK and US.

Applications will be made available on 1 August 2012 with the deadline now extended to the 15 November 2012 making it even easier to prepare and submit your application.
