If you’re an engineer who is excited about communicating your work to a wider audience, you should have a look at the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Ingenious Public Engagement scheme:
You could be an engineer interested in running your own project, or a science and engineering communicator keen to explore ways to provide public engagement training and opportunities.
We are also keen to receive project proposals that aim to encourage deeper discussions between engineers and the wider public about the implications of engineering for society (for example, cultural and ethical impacts).
Ingenious has funded over 50 projects to date, providing opportunities for over 1,000 engineers to take part in thought-provoking activities, to gain skills in communication and to bring engineering to the very centre of society.
Grants of between £3,000 and £30,000 are available for successful applications submitted before the next deadline: 14th October 2011.
The case studies and mini-films are worth watching to get an idea of the work they’ve funded in the past (although the films don’t appear to be embeddable on other websites, which is a bit of a strange move if the Royal Academy of Engineering want their funded work to be widely viewed).
