The University Research Office runs a number of training and staff development events every month. These events are open to all University of Lincoln staff and cover everything from finding funding opportunities for research projects to becoming a better bid writer. Working on the web: Wednesday 12 January, 12pm – 1.30pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
Find out how free and easy-to-use web technologies (Web 2.0) and standards (RSS) can improve the way you work online. This lunchtime workshop, run in conjunction with CERD and the Library, will introduce tools to help you easily keep track of funding and published research. Bid Writing Surgery: Thursday 13 January, all day, Ground Floor Meeting Room, Enterprise @ Lincoln, Brayford Campus
Dr. Martin Pickard (Grantcraft) is an external consultant employed by the University of Lincoln. Martin’s monthly bid writing surgery will give staff an opportunity to access his 25 years of experience in supporting bids for external funding. Please contact research@lincoln.ac.uk if you wish to book an appointment to speak to Martin about a bid to any funder. Each appointment lasts around 45 mins to 1 hour.
Je-S Training: Wednesday 19 January, 12.30pm – 2pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
This lunchtime session will introduce the Research Council’s electronic submission system: Je-S. Find out how to use Je-S to prepare and submit a grant application. Please book via HR (training@lincoln.ac.uk), registration on Je-S prior to the event is advisable. Navigate to https://je-s.rcuk.ac.uk/ and click on Create an Account. This session has been cancelled due to a clash with Graduation. The session will be rearranged, but please contact us for 1:1 support in the meantime.
Understanding Google Apps: online collaborative tools for researchers: Wednesday 26 January, 12.30pm – 2.30pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
Google Apps offers leading online collaborative tools, including document authoring, group instant messaging, group discussions, shared calendars, online storage, and more. This session, run collaboratively with CERD and the Library, will provide staff with an introduction to all aspects of Google Apps for Education and will show participants how to use the variety of collaborative applications from Google. Finding Research Funding: Wednesday 2 February, 11am – 12.30pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
These workshops will show you how to use online tools such as ResearchProfessional.com to search for and find funding for research projects. They will address a range of opportunities and funding sources. Please contact HR to book a place:training@lincoln.ac.uk.
Grant Development Workshop: Tuesday 15 February, 9.30am – 3.30pm, Meeting Room 2, Enterprise @ Lincoln, Brayford Campus
The Research Grant Development Workshop is designed to improve success rates of research funding applications. The morning session takes the form of a mock funding panel, with participants reviewing previously submitted funding bids. In the afternoon, participants will get the opportunity to comment in detail on their own outline bids prepared in advance. Numbers are limited to 8 per session to facilitate group discussion.
