The University Research Office runs a number of training and staff development events every month. These events are open to all staff and cover everything from finding funding opportunities for research projects to becoming a better bid writer. Both one-to-one and group-based support is available. Finding Research Funding: Wednesday 2nd June, 11am-12.30pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
These workshops will show you how to use online tools such as ResearchProfessional.com to search for and find funding for research projects. They will address a range of opportunities and funding sources. Please contact HR to book a place: training@lincoln.ac.uk.
Bid Writing Surgeries: Thursday 3rd June, 9am-5pm, MC3102, MHT Building, Brayford Campus
Dr. Martin Pickard (Grantcraft) is an external consultant employed by the University of Lincoln. Martin’s monthly bid writing surgery will give staff an opportunity to access his 25 years of experience in supporting bids for external funding. Please contact research@lincoln.ac.uk if you wish to book an appointment to speak to Martin about a bid to any funder. Each appointment lasts around 45mins to 1 hour.
Grant Development Workshop: Monday 7th June and Wednesday 23rd June, 9.30am-3.30pm, rooms TBC, Brayford Campus
The Research Grant Development Workshop is designed to improve success rates of research funding applications. The morning session takes the form of a mock funding panel, with participants reviewing previously submitted funding bids. In the afternoon, participants will get the opportunity to comment in detail on their own outline bids prepared in advance. Numbers are limited to 8 per session to facilitate group discussion. ESRC First Grant Workshop: Friday 11th June, 9.30am-3.30pm, room TBC, Brayford Campus
The ESRC First Grants scheme enables new researchers to gain experience of managing and leading research projects. Successful applicants are able to pursue a significant programme of research for up to 3 years and £400,000. Prof. Hugh Bochel and the Research Office will jointly facilitate this workshop which will involve a discussion of the First Grant scheme, what makes a good application, and how the review process works. Please contact research@lincoln.ac.uk to book a place as soon as possible, and please forward a completed outline form to research@lincoln.ac.uk by 9th June at the latest. This is important as discussion of the outlines will be central to the activities on the day.
Je-S Training: Thursday 17th June, 12-1pm, Computing Services Training Room 1, MAB, Brayford Campus
This lunchtime session will introduce the Research Council’s electronic submission system: Je-S. Find out how to use Je-S to prepare and submit a grant application.
