Date: 18th Feb 2009
Start Time: 12:00
End Time: 13:30

Description: This workshop aims to help academic and research staff improve their research by making better use of the web.
Do you want to:
- improve the way you search for funding information?
- improve the way you receive and organise information about research and funding?
- find out about ways to make research collaboration, networking and manuscript production with others more effective and efficient?
- find out how to connect and find others with shared research interests?
If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions than this workshop is for you!
In this hour-long session we will show you how free and easy-to-use web-based tools such as RSS, social bookmarking, blogs and wikis can help you quickly complete otherwise time consuming or laborious tasks, e.g. searching for and organising research funding opportunities. We will also explain how to use social media to promote your research and easily connect with other like-minded researchers around the world.
Individuals from all disciplines with any research interests/activities are encouraged to attend.
The course will be held on 18th Feb in Computing Services Training Room 1, 1st floor MAB at 12.00. Refreshments will be provided.
Space is limited so to book your place ASAP, please email training@lincoln.ac.uk.
Recommended preparation:
If you have a spare 15 minutes before the session, why not watch a few of these brief, informative videos. We will be covering some of these topics in the presentation and showing how they can help you in your research career. Come prepared with questions:

Hi David – hope you don’t mind, but I’ve pirated this in its entirety for the Winch!
Of course not! I would do the same!
How about adding another one on putting your research in the repository!
Will definitely publicise the repository (and forthcoming launch events) at the workshop, but we’ll need to keep that training separate, partly because we’ve only got an hour to fit in all of the above! Wish us luck!
That is great David (and the Research Office Team).
In fact, it is on time, with the start of my collaboration in the NDA’s SUS-IT project. Those facilities will be very useful and we’re planning to utilise as much as possible of them {and “Huddle” as well, hope it is included!}. So, great to have a coincise introduction to those tools, within the research context.
Looking forward for it…
